Ok I was asleep at the switch but when I decide to work on the XJ I have I will try it. While there does seem to be less room there I think there is still a trick to it. I will have to check with my Yamaha mechanic buddy and see if he knows any shortcuts. Will let you know if he has any.

      3rd times a Charm

3rd times a charm I went for a short ride the bike was responsive ran very well. There may be a minor hesitation I really did not get to run long still and this gem has not seen the road in a long time. I am sure with the sync it will be even better Thank you to all for your help I still have much to do but the feeling of this ride is just the best therapy ever.

Still on my list for phase one work

1 Sync the carbs ( buy or build a YICS tool and the vac meters) any thoughts ?

2 Shim the valves ( this one seems tough also need to get the required shims and tools and valve gasket I guess) still reading and learning

3 Adjust the cam tensioner and fix a minor leak ( fear of the adjust bolt snapping off) ever happen?

4 New tires ( is a shop best or is this a do it yourself) recommended tires where to get ? What will this one cost?

5 Diode for battery alarm ( Nice write up on the forum)

6 Rear brake seems to have too much play to stop( mighty vac 2 times already ) will keep trying

That should complete phase one not much left from where I started

Thrilled with the progress so far the ride was amazing
Never could have gotten so far without you guys
      Thanks again

1 & 2 and letting the engine warm up good should take care of the hesitation.

#3 I would suggest doing the ACCT mod.

#4 could start another tire thread but look HERE for the best price. And if you don't have the equipment have them mounted and balanced somewhere.

        #5 Cy can probably help

#6 Make sure your brake pedal pivot isn't sticky and the spooge hole in the master cylinder is clear. This can cause a low pedal.

On the #5 I thought that was resistor that was used to trick the XJ battery light? But not having had an XJ yet (I'd like to get one though, I do like how they look) I've not had a chance to look into that personally.

On #6, if the rubber parts in the MC are a bit hard and sucking air, you might be continuing to get air bubbles in the line which would keep the pedal spongy. Mine really should get a kit, but if I take my time bleeding it I can get all the air out and it's fine, and it doesn't leak so I'm leaving it be for now. It's on my list for down the road at some point though, probably when I go through the system when I replace all the lines, but money is still tight so I ain't fixing anything that ain't broke right now.

            Damaged Emulsion tube

Anyone ever try to re-tap the threads on an emulsion tube? I have a tube with damaged threads at the entrance so that the main jet will not screw in. Any ideas?

A thread chaser would be what you want. Don't know the thread size or if they even make them that small though.

If you've got a spare jet that you don't need, try filing a notch lengthwise on the threads like a self-tapping screw, then run that in and out a few times. That's worked for me a few times on oddball threads...

Thanks. I have not been able to find an M5 thread chaser so I will probably have to resort to your method.
