Dont know if this helps? On my 79SF the size of wire was a tell tell and there was a 30amp, 20amp and two 10amp fuse's that went with the different size wires

The blue is your tail/running lights (10A), the big brown connects to the other big brown which is the turns, horn, etc (20A), the two smaller browns connect to the red/yellow (headlight, 10A) and red/white (ignition, 10A)....

No it doesn't, they are split taps off of the main power line/harness, so there's no worries about mixing them up, both browns are just power(+12V) and you're just putting a fuse between it and the two circuits they power, the red/white and yellow/white. As Steve said the larger wire is required for the turns because they draw more power/amperage.

The MAIN fuse is in a separate holder on the other side of the bike.

Well, I suppose that depends on the year/model. The model 78E is fused in the fuse block.

I organized my wiring by the length of wire I had to work with. My daughter printed me a very nice label.

Hey Skids, Yes I know that, but I was specifically stating it for his XJ.

                        Fuse Block / Main Fuse

I just installed a fuse block in my 80 SG (Lordco Auto Parts $13.00). PO had changed to flat fuses but had just left the holders dangling in the breeze. I was going to move my main fuse over from the left side to the block and noticed it was a 20 amp. Nothing seems to have been harmed by this but shouldn't it be a 30 amp?

Yes, it should be a 30. But truthfully, on a naked bike (no extra lights, fairing, etc) a 20 amp fuse can work but it's probably operating near it's limit. So put in a 30 anyway, it may save some head-scratching on the side of the road...

                            Fuse block

I am getting ready to change out my OEM block with one I just revived from TC, one of the previous owners made some mods to the box already, I'm not totally sure which fuse is which at this point, the attached pic shows where it sits right now, none of the glass fuses have a legible rating on them and the blade fuse is a 25amp, a little assistance would be appreciated.
