anybody know if the flasher buzzed or made some kind of noise on the 1100?

    flasher

The stock flashers were silent, no buzz. If yours buzzes, the contact points inside are dirty/corroded. These units can be carefully pried apart, contacts cleaned, and should give much more service.

Well, not dead silent.... they will make a quiet 'clicking' noise when working right.

If your turns aren't working, don't assume it's the flasher; the stock unit is very heavy-duty (and a new replacement is big bux) and not particularly known for going bad. And it can be cleaned/repaired in most cases like rover said. It's much more likely you have dirty/broken connections in the turn wiring, switch, and/or light sockets. If the lamps have been replaced with common automotive lamps (rather than the higher-wattage motorcycle lamps), they may not work.
