  • Elec Guru's / CS?

OK, it was just getting dark and I started my bike as maintance. After I warmed it up, I let it run at 3000rpm for 40sec or so. Ran OK, but sputtered just a little, I noticed the nutral light would dim just a little when it sputtered, then would brighten and sputtered stop, them back to sputter and dim, no rpm drop

If only the neutral light was doing anything weird, then look at it's connection to make sure it's tight. It might also just be the vibration caused the switch to 'flutter'. Either way, shouldn't be a big deal...

You need to actually ride it, not just start it. No wonder you are having problems.

Or as is the case in our northern climate. Charge the battery regularily as part of the maintenance. Then if there is issues that present, you are at least not chasing a half assed charged battery issue. Not saying that is your problem, but if it has not run in a while it may be worth doing.

Sounds like a connection problem that fixed itself. These bikes are trainable. If you let them sit there idling looking for somthing to work on long enough they will break for you.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

The neutral indicator wire and the pickup coil wires are in the same wireloom under the left lower frame rail. If the wire insulation is deteriorated to the point the wires can touch the pickup wires will ground through the neutral indicator wire and switch causing a stumble and the light to flicker. It will be more prevalant if the wires are wet.
