The only thing the service manual fails to state is to have the bike on the centerstand when removing the tensioner, otherwise the chain can fall off to the left of the crank sprocket and next thing you know, you have bent valves.

draggon, that leak from tensioner is a hint to replace it with an auto-adjuster......would seriously consider it........good insurance and beats the cost of the alternative.....81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Works until rubber plug comes out completely.....and it will eventually as they get hard from the heat. Just like anything else, has to be sealed from inside out......not other way around as that is just a bandaide at best. Will work until your a hundred miles from home and you suddenly have warm pant legs with a dark saturation........theres a pair auto CCT's on the bay off a Venture Royal 1300 for less than 50bills........JAT.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Thanks for the impute moto... What are the fitting models for the auto cct. What about theading the end of the cct and and pipe plugging it. Or putting in a freeze plug. A rubber plug seems out of place in that spot for sureDon

Hey Dragon,
Multiple techniques have been used. A fellow used a bottle cap with RTV!
It's a NO PRESSURE oil leak spot, so it shouldn't take much to seal it. The threaded/tapped idea with plug and possibly JB Weld would be a good technique also!
I put a big glob of RTV on mine many years ago, and it's still sealed well. YMMV!

Actually there are several that fit and work. Two that are commonly used are out of a Venture 12 or 1300, any year V-max(same motor as Venture), 550Vision(have to elonggate upper hole in tensioner), all plug and play, just follow original tensioner adjustment instructions.......all of course on centerstand unless it's missin'..... still HAS to be upright and vertical81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

If you want to do drilling and tapping, you can make it into a manual no slip tensioner and it will never leak out the front again, JAT. Then again, you don't even need to drill, just run a 3/8" tap thru and RTV the threads of the new front lockbolt.2H7 (79) owned since '89
