Tires... anyone have any experience with this brand?

I've got a set of Shinko Tour Masters on my 80G and I seem to like them.
I haven't had any handling issues and they seem to grap ok in the rain.
I drive all interstate (60miles roundtrip) everyday for my commute and they're holding up just find.
I bought them for the price. (I think they were about $60 each)
Being a commuter, I put a lot of miles on my bike every year and figured if I've got to replace them often enough, might as well get a good price.
A few years ago I had some Dunlops on and they seemed to wear out a little faster.

I haven't had good luck with the Shinko 712's. A few I've bought (3) were out of round. When I do get a round one they are ok tires. I've gone back to the Bridgestone Spitfires which are almost as inexpensive.

My tire guy will usually try and get me close to their price... I Think the last time we talked about them we we're around $150 for the set. since he's recommending them I'm sure if theres an issue of un-roundness He'll take care of em... one way or the other

Ya I hear ya I commute about 40 round trip. and if its over freezing temp and dry I'm on a bike. Nice summer days I take the extra long way home. between my 2 Bikes I clear 5,000 miles easy every year just running around here. Sounds like the kind of tire I need. On long trips or even Spring Days to work and back here in the Pacific NW you can leave under sunny skies and return in a down pour... so wet handling is a must

I used the Chen Shin's on my KZ750LTD, they worked great, good price was what got me to buy as I didn't plan to put a million miles on the bike They were round and balanced easy, I just could have gotten lucky, only took it to about 95 mph, but I was happy for the price

anybody know the durabilty with the Spitfires? ive been looking for a rear raised white letter with no avail. i have IRC Durotours, new frt, worn out rear and wanted to keep the RWL look. mixing them may have to be the answer.

i have shinko 712s on my xj and really like them. they have been on about a year now. wearing good no problems. check out pinwall_cycle_parts on ebay. he sells tires by pairs also. where i bought mine. good prices on tires. good to deal with. just my 2 cents

I would never buy anything from pinwall cycle! They have terrible customer service, and they dont know their head from their a$$ when it comes to their parts. They mislable probably 70% of their parts and when you get the wrong stuff they tell you "tough $hit, not our fault".

Now, I've had good luck with Pinwall... I've bought a bunch of stuff from them over the past 4-5 years (mostly Harley bits, but a few XS parts) and haven't had a problem. I'll admit they mis-identify parts on a pretty regular basis so you need to be sure of what you're buying from them because chances are good they don't know, but they also don't start their auctions at sky-high prices either, so you can get some decent buys from them generally. They do list some outright junk IMO on occasion, but as they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure...

I bought the exhaust for my SG from them, and while not mint (needed cleaning and some minor repair), was actually a bit better than described. For $160 (including shipping), I felt I got a pretty decent deal...

Yep, I've had good luck with pinwall as well. I got a set of XJ front pegs pretty cheap that were is REALLY nice shape, and a set of XJ rear shocks really cheap too that also are in really good condition. And yes, they were BOTH mismarked, but I knew what they were, and they actually came off the same bike, and it was a good deal for good parts, so I was a happy customer.

I have the Shinko tourmasters on my vmax. A lot of the guys on vmaxforum.net use the shinkos and recommend them. They took a lot of weights to balance them. It is a very grippy tire and not bad for the money but will wear out quickly depending on your riding style. After 4k miles the rear is showing it's age but the front looks new. The vmax is tough on rear tires so I can't complain. For $125.00 for both tires I can't complain. At TC's suggestion I have Dunlop Elite 3's on my 79 xs1100 special and they are awesome. So would I recommend the shinkos???....yes...not a bad deal for the money.
