    chain drive mod

I've heard this mentioned cassually in several post, the word expensive was also thrown around, who makes this, has anyone here done it? Has anyone tried something a little more radical like dropping a 85 fj100 in an xs frame?

There's a seller that has turned up on eBay once in a while that offers a similar conversion (but his requires a monster rear tire), but there's nobody else that I'm aware of.

One downside to 'Chop's swap is poor chain life, as you can't go bigger than a 15T front sprocket. If you're looking at this for a bigger rear tire, it's possible to fit a 160/80-16 with very careful mods to the swingarm...
Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

'78E original owner - resto project
        '78E ???? owner - Modder project FJ forks, 4-piston calipers F/R, 160/80-16 rear tire
        '82 XJ rebuild project
        '80SG restified, red SOLD
        '79F parts...
        '81H more parts...

Cage: '13 Mustang GT/CS with a few 'custom' touches
        Yep, can't leave nuthin' alone...

Just always liked the response and look of a chain drive bike, and as far as chain life, I can live with that, I'll replace a chain anyday.

              Wow!

Wow, considering these bikes are worth less the the conversion would cost Wouldn't it make more sence to just sell the XS and buy a bike with a chain

unless you like the mono shock sport crotch rocket style, what bike would you be talking about??
Here's the guy on ebay doing it, but I believe his design requires you to have an extremely large rear tire due to his design, possibly the front sprocket sticks out pretty far.

                    Yea

Yea, I did, the gear box is nice, then repaceing the rear swing arm assembley, the a new tire and wheel , the a new sprocket drive for the wheel, then new bearings and brake's, chain etc. there are plenty of FZR's out there with all that and they will always run any XS old school bike in the ground, So, yes, I did say that

Doubtful....are we bragging or just trying rub elbows again. You make a statement like these x's are worthless without thinking about all the people who are on this site who own one without regards that it might be a bit insulting or hurtful in the process....and have the audacity to say we are wasting our money with these kind of mods when we could just go out and BUY a bike with all these features and still try act humble in the same sentence. This site is riddled with modifications, and not all of them are for making a poor design better, some are merely for personalization. Some talk about modifications are just talk, and will never see the light of day on some peoples bike, mine as well, its just talk, that's a forum. If "OEM" is more than just a moniker, please don't respond to my threads involving modifications. I apologize to everyone else on this site if I've taken my thread in an awkward direction...but I thought it was a thread on a "chain conversion", not a "why waste your money on a worthless bike thread"

                            Man?

Man, you are getting upset over nothing IMHO. If you want to mod your bike and have the cash to do it, then cool. I am allowed to give my thoughts, and they would be a cheaper way to get a nice chain driven Yamaha with much less work and $$$. Like I said, if cash and time is not a consideration to some, and they enjoy it, it is your money and time I can add my thoughts that before spending all the $$, you can buy one already like that with even more HP and better handleing for about the cost of the mod on an XS. I knew a guy tha spent thousands and thousands on putting a V8 into a pinto? Hey, If he liked it, more power to him Just offering a different way to get the same result for less $$, It is your money, spend it in a way that puts a smile on your face
