its been changed out for a standard tank,
if the tank has the stock petcocks then they would be
vac operated, hopefully thatl help with some of the confusion.
Someone told me that was a touring tank? The petcocks have been plugged off and Yes the the vac lines removed. I run her on PRIME and all other settings she is OFF after thinking about it i dont think i will add the vac lines again like I planned in. This is just simpler. Dont know if theres any advantages to making it the way it was originally with the vac hookups? Plus i dont have the Parts!

heres a pic of mine when i first got it,
the ugly fairing isnt part of it, the only other
part that wasnt original is the exhaust system, i noticed
on urs, u had the original system keep that its worth a small
      fortune in good nic.

these bike were made like this, they are a bitsa of a bike using different
      parts from different models.

its up2 u how u want to run the petcocks, if u keep it the way u have it as
long as u turn the taps off and theres no fuel leaking out of the carbs
then ull be sweet to go, if u want to play it on the safe side connect the vaccuum lines up then u wont need to worry about turning the taps off.

The tank you have looks like the tank that comes on our 81 Venturer (the touring bike) it holds an extra US gallon of gas than the other standard tank.

As to the petcocks not having the vacuum function, I would think that since the petcocks do not work at all except in prime that the vacuum function still works. You say that the vac hookups were plugged? Unplug them and hook up vac lines to the carb intake boots. I would think that if the vac function was totally disabled then the petcocks would still function in the on and reserve settings.

Try just sticking some hose on the vacuum nipple and sucking on it with the petcock in the on position, that will tell you if it works still.

The downfall of only running the petcocks on prime is that you no longer have the reserve function. So when you run out of gas you are totally out, you no longer have that little bit of extra gas that you can use to get to the next gas station.

The parts should be just two vacuum lines to the carb boots, nothing more than that. You should be able to just connect the plugged off lines to the plugged vacuum ports on the carb boots of the number 2 and 3 carbs and then the on and res settings should work when the engine is running. The way you describe it working is how the vacuum petcocks in the standard tank work without vacuum applied.
