Also, a battery that low should be attempted to be first charged with a regular full strength charger device, and then once it's up to normal full charge, then the tender could be used. But yep, sounds like a dead cell, but you could get lucky. I have a tender, but I rarely use it, I prefer to connect my regular 2 amp trickle smart charger to the battery once a month or so during the winter. My garage isn't climate controlled, and I really should remove the battery from the bike and store it inside the house/closet, cold isn't good for the battery either! Of course, I would put it back out in the garage for actual charging, but then put it back in the house to keep nice and warm and cozy!

Ok, here is thought. Anyone ever added their MC battery to their cage during the off months? I have more than enough room in my engine compartment to strap my scoot battery in there and wire it in like a diesel engine with 2 batteries.Nathan

I dont think so nate
If you are talking about running in series, that should only be done on batteries of same capacity.
If setup in parallel, you need an auxiliary battery isolator to get it to charge properly.

Cycle
Just cycle it once in a while during storage Turn you bike to park for 10 min., then slow charge it with a low amp charger. Twice a season in the winter and it will last a long time1979 XS1100 Special (Mad Max, OEM) Current

We had crappy weather since Hurricane Irene in N.J. and normally i keep it in my Moms garage during the riding season, however she had her garage floor sealed and it sat in my storage unit.I almost chopped off my finger at work in September and have not ridden since.I dont have a battery charger but will borrow one from my boss at work.1980 XS1100 SG

Another thought...
I hooked up one of those smart battery chargers to a deep cycle batt that I use for a trolling motor. The thing came back with a "bad battery/replace" message. I suspected something was wrong since the batt wasn't that old. An inspection of the batt revealed that a couple of the cells were low on water. I filled them all up, re-connected the charger, and all was well. The batt charged up and is in use again.
I also did this with a wallyworld MC batt that sat around for a year and a half after a couple of years of use. Charged up, and have been running it in my G for a year now.
SO..... make sure your cells are full before attempting to charge or analyze.
Make sure you use only distilled water to top them off, anything else will cause deterioration of the batt.1980G Standard, Restored

I was told that one should make sure the battery is fully charged then wrap it in plastic and put it outside in a snowbank until spring.
Never had the bottle to try it.
And why should a battery tender not be your friend?Fred Hill, S'toon
