Source for Fork Seals

The last step to get Shankapotomous legal is the state inspection, so I headed out to the Yamaha dealer first thing this morning. The inspector wiped his finger accross the front brakes under the forks and said my fork seals were leaking and it would not pass... bummer.
Of course they did not have seals in stock so I thought I would order online. Meanwhile I cleaned up the rotors and under the rubber caps on the forks with brake cleaner and went to the Harley dealer to try again.. That guy really liked my bike and rode it and looked it over pretty good... all legal now, but I still want to get some seals. Any suggestions on the best seals and supplier for '80 standard?

If you still plan on using air assist, then I would use OEM Yamaha seals $$. If you have fitted hevier springs and don't use air then I would use some cheaper standard seals, like K+L's from Georgefix web site. If the tubes are pitted/dented, then I would use Leakproof brand, JMHO, YMMV.

Edit: I've used the Parts Unlimited brand $10/pr from DK with no problems, but on non-damaged tubes. A few pits will eat them up.

good find on the Special fork seals seeing they are no longer available OEM for the Special or XJ.

Whatever a few suppliers may have left............better grab 'em if your aboarb a Special/XJ

Hey Motoman, I agree with you. My was because the only other seals I could find to pass on to the group was twice as much You are right about, get them now if you need them because there arent many out there to get!

Georgefix has them in his store for $11 and a nice pile of other rebuild parts too. I've been getting things from him for years...always the right price and shippied very quick.

We were talking Yamaha OEM seals, aftermarkets are still out there from many sources, but there is a "BIG" differance If you plan on pressureizing the tubes or they are less then perfect surface, they will leak alot sooner then the OEM IMHO

Georgefix has them in his store for $11 and a nice pile of other rebuild parts too. I've been getting things from him for years...always the right price and shippied very quick.

Make sure you get the right ones...special and standards are not the same. He has both.

2 years back I replaced my bike's oil puking fork seals with whatever make it is that Dennis Kirk sells. FWIW they still stay pumped up.
