  • Idle pre-set position?

I did a pre-sync on my '80G carbs and forgot to write down my idle position. Anyone know what it is?

    Idle st

I just went through my carbs and if you are talking where to set the idle fuel mix screws, I would start at 1 3/4 turns out, then color tune (what I am working on now) If you are talking about the total idle screw (the one that opens all 4 carbs, I would just hold them up to the sun light and turn till you see them open, then back down till just a little light can come through

I'm confused. By pre-sync, do you mean setting the butterfly valves to the same open position?

You set the idle with the bike running, usually around 1100rpm.

Then with the idle set, then you can sync the carbs with some kind of vacuum rig.

      Hope this helps.
When you ask questions, it's useful to give more information like bike model and year and specifics to your questions.

EDIT: Just read the 2nd post from OEM4ME and to add to his comment, I set my idle mix screws at 2 turns out to start, then dialed them in after i sync'd them.

Okay, I set all of the butterflys the same with a wire-tie wire. Will it idle at this setting?

As long as your idle mix screws are out at least 1 to 1&1/2 turns she should idle just fine. (may be a little high like around 2k or so)
You may have to use the choke to get her started and warmed up, after that then adjust the idle set screw to get the idle set at 1100rpm.

when u look at the butterflys, have them only slightly open at best
if there open to much the bikes idle will race on start up, keep a hand close
to the kill switch in case that happens to shut it down quick, if
that happens back the idle screw off a bit.
once the bikes running u can then set the idle to the correct revs
              around 1100rpm

                +1

+1 Pete, that is why I said to hold up to the sun light and turn till you can see light comming through, then back off till just the least bit of light comes through

                    Wire

Any wire tie (thinkng you are talking about a bread twist tie type) would be "WAY" to open for idle That kind of gap will have you at "to the moon" RPM''s. Just the least bit of sun light comming through each carb will be a good starting point
