  • Front Master Cyl assembly?

I rebuild my front master cyl. and was very careful to put all the new parts in exactly as I removed the old parts (as the kit comes with no instructions) I got to thinking and looking at the parts and the spring has a large end and a small end with a flat cover. The master cyl had the small end of the spring pushing againest the plunger and the large end againest the housing After studying the old parts it looks like the big end should be inside the plunger to center it Did I assemble it wrong following the PO's mistake or was it correct the way I did it? It is a real pain to get the c-clip in and out, but I don't want to put it back on if it is going to cause problems down the road (it worked fine the way the PO had it but I rebuilt it as a precaution.

The PO had it right. The metal cap rests on the plunger.

Thanks! I am sooooo glad to hear that, C-clip location is a PIA I was looking at this (attached) exploded view and it shows U-washer (in addition to the C-clip) that goes between the washer and the dust cover, then a round disk that goes between the plunger and push rod My master cyl and / or the new kit didn't have either of these parts My rear master had a thin blue washer between the plunger and push rod, but not the front master cyl, is this just a misprint or am I missing something Don't mean to beat a horse to death, but I am kinda funny when it comes to stopping

There needs to be that U washer under the snap-ring. I don't know that the rebuild kits include that piece, since you can re-use the old one. Without that U washer, there is nothing for the snap-ring to hold against. That is what prevents the plunger from popping out of the bore.

As for the snap-ring itself, get a pair of long-reach right-angled snap-ring pliers, and it's really easy to install/remove it. MikesXS sell them, but I think you can get them at Harbor Freight too.
