[QUOTE=XS1100_OEM4ME;345424] I owned a AutoBody shop in my youth. I have done the kind of paint job you are talking about. Here is a pic of my 68 Z28 (and, yes, I did extend the mufflers to over the axle after the pic was taken) It was primed, sealed, top coated with PPG black Lacquer (Ah, the good ole days when you could buy / spray Lacquer), debur-sanded between 5 coats, PPG gold Lacqure stripes, gold micro sequins in clear on top, then 5 coats of PPG clear Lacquer, debur-sanded between coats, then 1000 sanded, 1200 sanded, 1600 Ditzler power buffing compound, Ditzled pollishing compound then finishing compound then wax then off to the car shows But that was a $100,000.00 show car, this is a $1,900.00 bike, and I am getting old

Speaking of youth and paint take a look at the near frame off I did in 1988 on this 67 Firebird 400 Convertible 4-speed with 54,000 miles, it also had factory adjustable Koni Shocks as well as factory adjustable Traction Bars. These cars would scoot!

These are pic's of a friends 69 Z28 which was the most detailed restoration I have seen to date.

Feel free to browse some my other cars are posted and of course my XJ.

      Steve's Pic's

Steve, this was what I was asking about, how do you get your pic's to show up as a photo instead of a link to phoyobucket?

The 3000 paper leaves it looking almost as good as what you'd get with 'regular' rubbing compound, and the rubbing-out process with the 'pro' stuff was no harder than applying a paste wax and gave me a super-smooth finish. Results here...

When you are in your album, place your cursor over thxe pic you want (dont click) and a list will pop up under the pic, click on the box that is after the "IMG" and it will automatically copy the special link and then come to your post here and then paste (hit control and v together) the link where you want the pic to show.

          Photo Update

1st, thanks to all who helped me learn to upload pic's 2nd Thank youu Steve for shamming me into finishing my tank and sidecovers correctly. I was going to just rub them out, but, Steve's pic's of his bike made me spend hours (about 6, just like he said) sanding and polishing them (I did 1200 grit, then 2000, then 3M cutting compound, the 3M rubbing cmpoung, I will finish with polishing compound then wax soon after cured completly) Anyway, here are the results. I included a pick of the resto job I did on my handelbar controlls also, found new decals on Ebay 6 years ago (boy, am I slow at getting things done)
