    I like both

I like them both, octy, vac p-cocks, they both serve a point (even more important when you get older and have "Half-timers" and don't know where you parked your bike, much less "did I turn off the gas") They stop the fuel flow from getting into the motor The octy is a single point valve, so not twice the chance of failure of the vac p-cocks, but both are great when working right. +1 on cleaning and reassembly VS rebuild kit, I used the rebuild kit and couldn't get the darn thing to close all the way. Re-installed the "old" dia, and it works fine One oversight that has not been a prob yet, is when under full throtle, the vacume drops to almost "0" and the fuel requirment goes to max They still seem to worh fine though

If gas runs out the petcocks, take them off, apart clean any build-up off, make sure no holes in the diaphram(or fuel can be pulled through that vacuum port), clean gasket area, ever so lightly stretch the spring, put it all back together and on the tank. Normally no need for a petcock kit.

On my XS400 I have experienced the problem with vacuum falling to 0 and fuel starvation, but I have never experienced that on my XS11 and I don't know if anyone has. To be truthful, these petcocks when right don't need very much vacuum to open them up, but the 400 at full throttle under load doesn't get even that. I've never been able to get mine under that much load, I'm afraid to see how fast it would have to be going to have a change at getting to that . It MIGHT be a problem if the bleeder hole were too big, or if like one of my petcocks the bleeder were loose in it's holder so not working, then they don't work right.

They do chatter on and off a little anyways under low vacuum even when right, but if the hole is too big, or the bleeder (or restrictor) is loose then they chatter bad and don't pass fuel like they should, and it COULD be a problem then.
