Cafe Time 1981 Venture project
Some time has passed ... how did your Cafe project turn out? Any photos of the build or finished bike?
I'm trying to bring a 82 XS 1100 Maxim "Craigslist Find" back to life after sitting in the Phoenix sun since 2008. The seat is toast, Tank is toast on the top with the clear coat burnt off and the black base coat gone and some surface rust. Tank inside good & clean.
Now changing all the fluids. Crank case oil very thick and black ... oil filter black but no flakes, chunks, or shinning stuff. Transmission oil dark golden BUT only 8-1/4 oz came out. Again, no flakes, chunks, or shinning stuff. Differential tomorrow? Plan to replace with AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-140. Any real world experience with this gear lube.
As I also have a nice stock 79 XS 1100F - I plan to "cafe" the 82 Maxim if it checks out mechanically.
