Well, to each, his own. I prefer the full bagger myself! I do have a nakid 78E that is fun to ride - when the weather cooperates.

Man, I'm not a purist or anything, and to each his own, but it almost feels shameful to take an end-of-life, maximum expression of a model line and bastardize it into a cafe or any type of mod instead of restoring it.
I wish I had the $$ to take it off your hands and restore it. People drool over that tank, the dresser components, seat, etc. Oh well, I hope it makes you happy.

Well with purchase and all the parts I put into it I have about 1200.00 wrapped up into it. I have rebuilt the carbs countless times, I rebuilt the rear caliper, adjusted the valves, adjusted the cam tensioner, put amsoil fluids in everything except the motor (due to frequent changes because of leaky carbs) and trimmed down the windshield. So to answer your question.. somewhere around what I have into it so I can get a different one.

I don't think I am going to split up the parts, I will probably store them. I have another big tank and seat pan to make part of the cafe. I have always wanted a cafe bike and this was the right price at the time.

A thousand bucks doesn't seem to steep for the bike if it's as good as it looks in the pics. But we all know how kind digital cameras are with their subjects. Still.... Tom, you're brave to step up to the plate and try to save it.

Stuff that's wrong with it is small dings on the tank, missing bag hinges, scratches here and there

Hell if I didnt live 1200 miles away I'd give you $1200 for the bike...You do realize that the venturer is rare...not the rarest but one of them. Only made in 1981...I would not butcher that one for a cafe' bike.
