to put the rest of the stuff required for the kick start.
if the internals arent fitted ull see a hole where the oil flows thru,
youll have to split the cases,
look inside both bikes and youll see the differences.
Cool, thanks. I'll take a peek when I get home. I ended up measuring for some solid struts really quick yesterday, and looking at the clutch lever brainstorming some ideas to make a quick jockey shifter to see how I like it ...

Why do you need to split the cases?

      Hey, guys.

In preparation for my 1st and 2nd gear fix, I tore into my parts engine to practice taking out the counter shaft through the oil pan and get more gears to choose from when I do the fix. Low and behold, the kick start parts inside the transmission were in there, and I could get them out through the oil pan. I just ordered the kicker shaft and associated parts off ebay for $9, and I still need to locate a kick lever. I plan to try to install them on my XJ motor when I do my fix hopefully later this week. I'll post back after to say how it goes.

In '80 some had the internal parts and some didn't. It was the phase out year.

I ended up buying another motor, so I did not rebuild mine and thus, the kick start was relegated to just a good idea. I don't like the dependency on something like a starter clutch, so I will be very interested in how it goes. Good luck!!
