    Hi racer,
when I swapped mine for stainless I tossed the old ones.
Swapping in a used 30-year old fabric brake hose is a bad thought.
You won't need a replacement until the trikie is ready for a test drive and stainless lines are better anyway.

      Hey DCRacer,

First of all, and you may have figured it out after your recent post, but you need to put a carriage return(hit the Enter/Return Key) after you post a link for each photo so that they display beneath each other, and don't run accross the screen causing severe sidescrolling. I editted your post and fixed their positioning.

Secondly, your photos are coming out blurry because you're moving the camera while it's making the exposure, either you're not using the flash and the shutter speed is set too slow, or you're just not waiting long enough after you click the shutter button for it to actually make the exposure. Many digital cameras have a little bit of a lag time between the shutter button depress and the actual actuation of the shutter/exposure.

Thirdly, you don't want to use the OEM vinyl type of brake tubing both for the reason you're experiencing now, and that they expand under use, and can make the front brakes spongy. Get thee to a bike shop or online and get some stainless steel braided lines.

If it has one, you could try using the macro setting on your camera. It is for closer up images and less chance for blurry photos.

Interesting project here and yes look for a flower symbol...that is for the Macro...and hold the camera steady...otherwise this is a very cool project

Have seen on other sites, that alot have opted to leave off the front brakes when triking . As you will have vastly improved braking now with the 2 rear drums or even better if a disc brake conversion is available.

              food for thought perhaps .

                nice recommending it mind you,

But might be an option if ok with your state regulations on front brakes

added this because of the 10 minute edit "feature"

Almost ANY good HD dealer or after market motorcycle shop can get the lines for you. Some, such as the HD, have you make up your own. You can also check ebay for some prices, as there are a few people that will sell a "kit" for about $150, IIRC.
The third way is go to a shop that repairs tractors, and have them make up three lines for you. They will NOT have the DOT marks, but will work just fine. If you need a yearly inspection, they may NOT work, though.

One thing I'll throw out here is if you've given any thought to unsprung weight. I noticed that you're using heavy-wall tubing for the swingarm, and the rear you selected has a cast-iron centersection (unlike the alloy units shown on some of the other trikes). If the unsprung weight gets too high, the suspension won't be able to control all that weight and you'll end up with what will effectively be a hard-tail trike in terms of handling. I'd look for ways to put that on a diet....

                      trike build

Ok in my state of new york if it came with front brakes you have to have them. also have thought about the unsprung weight and thats why I am using a racing coilover shock setup. I can dial up just about any setting I want with them. The combination you can get is totally unreal. and there rear end doesn't weigh as much as you think coming out from a 71 plymouth cricket. And the reason I used the heavy walled tubing is I wanted something that would take the stress and all the other stuff that goes with it. and besides it was free. and I will be shortening the left side 5 inches so that everything lines up. Will probably use alum rims as well.

                        trike

Ok ran into another problem, I had to take the exhaust pipes off the motor to try an clean up the rust and replace the exhaust gaskets, I am missing a exhaust nut which looks like a allen key head nut. I got the rest off with no problem, I now know why the headers were leaking. where do I get a couple of these nuts?

Yamaha still produce those nuts so try your local Yamaha parts dealer, should be around $3 each. Ask for part number 90179-08004-00

thanks for the info on the exhaust nuts but 2 months ago the dealer in my area got flooded big time and they haven't open back up yet. so I will have to search for one in a near by town.

You can also use the manifold set from a newer small block chevy! The "new" small block uses metric, and the kits in the red package at the local parts store have the bronze nuts and new studs. Just buy a $3 kit, and use the bronze nuts! I know they work as I've used it on my '79.
