Looking for a cheap nLED headlight?

Sorry to beat you to the punch, Incubus. I suppose the reason that you're still waiting is that I live in Australia, which is a lot closer to China than he US, plus the others who have theirs look to live on the East Coast, which is also closer than the West coast.
Just a note, also that when I took the snaps of the light in operation, I had a 4 amp charger hooked up to the battery that was feeding it, trying to replicate a system proper, as close as I could get.
Poprock, don't be put off altogether. It's just that in my case, I need the best lights available, as my daily commute to work involves 60 klms each way on an unlit, back country highway. I work 12 hour shifts, so one way or the other, I'm going to be riding in the dark.They may, as I stated be ok for around town riding, where streetlighting is installed.

Don't know, I think I was actually the first one to get mine, but I've not had a chance to pull the tank and disable the RLU to test it, and I'm on the west coast, not the east. I'm going to still do my test, on the road in the dark on the bike with the engine running. I'll run a set of roads that I know, that have minimal lighting with the LED's, and then with my silverstar and compare how well I can see. I don't do a lot of night riding, and I'll consider throwing driving lights on for night riding (two sets, one for high beam, another for low, legal as long as only 3 lights are on at any given time). That way the LED set could be mainly a DRL with the driving lights being for night time running. The more I think about it the better that sounds as most of the ads for the LED headlights actually talked about their high visibility and use and DRL's.

They're definitely worth at least trying out, particularly for the conditions you're testing in. using them, you'd be able to safely run heated gear around town with little stress on the charging system.

That's ok, I'm sure the directions get mixed up down under . On that note I got out there and did the RLU bypass (little upset when I found the type of connection, had to actually cut the wires like the tech tip said and do it permanently) so I could try it out, and found it'd dead on high beam. So I've got to figure out if it's even worth shipping it back to get a replacement. In the meantime my RLU is bypassed so if I decide to take my chances with a cheap HID setup and hope I don't get a ticket or get the bike impounded (latest word I have is is they will do fixit tickets for them) it's ready.

Ok, even though it only works on low beam, I decided to try it out at night. The result is, this thing sucks! Since it only works on low beam, if they will give me my money back I'll just get my money back, cause I don't want another one. Since I've done the RLU bypass, not approved or not, I'm thinking HID, at least as long as I can get away with it. The lower draw is more the reason than the extra light in my case.

HA! That is a lot of money for a 10,000 hr light!

If I was going to spend that much, I would throw another 150 in with it and get the DOT HID kit. Once you get up into those kind of dollars, I'd as soon go HID and get some really awesome lighting, which the LED stuff just doesn't give at this point.

Just before you chuck it in the bin, CY, the plug contacts on the back of the LED bulb may be the wrong polarity. Try making some little temporary wire bridges and I think you'll find the lamp will actually work on both beams with a bit of fiddling.

Regarding your current HID setup, if you run a strip of tape over the bottom of your headlight lens, parallel with the ground, it will greatly reduce the light scatter from the non DOT light.

That's the same one that we got. It's ok as a DRL, but it's no good as an actual headlight. I'm figuring it's going to make a nice tent light for camping. I'm figuring I'll make some sort of fixture for it of some sort, so that it can hang from the ceiling of the tent.

I already have a plan for that, Cy. I've got an old jumper battery, a left hand switch from a CB750 and a headlight pigtail from, I think, a Suzuki of some kind. Battery to black and green wires to the switch; green, blue and white wires to the pigtail, pigtail to bulb, wiring tossed over a shed rafter.

Switched shed light. Don't even need a reflector.

Mine came yesterday. So did the rain (whoo hoo!!!!). Playtime with new bulb, in bike and in shed, manana.

Anyone get one in yet and is this the kind of bulb in a XJ11? It'd be awesome to have such a low power unit work, what a gift to the alternator...

Define "work". It will light up, thus, it works. It doesn't work well enough to put out sufficient candle power, lumens or when ever, to be useful for a main headlight. DAMHIK
