cleaned carbs and replaced pilot jets reset timing bike starts and idles fine but when I hit the throttle seems to hang up. Greased linkage while carbs in place and lubed throttle cable, no results. Removed carbs and cleaned grease off linkage, lubed with wd 40 and reinstalled. Same results runs fine but hangs up at about 3000 rpms. removed vac loine from carb and it idles back down. Not sure if it is the vac pod (not available at bike bandit) or something else in the timing assy. Any ideas

First off, go back and make sure to get all the wd-40 off and relube with a cable lube. Wd-40 gets very sticky as it dries so it will make the cable hang up. Could try cleaning and tubing all.the advance parts. Also could be that you are running lean because that will cause a hanging idle.
Have you vac synced and set the idle mix since you cleaned the carbs? If not, do that before anything else.Nathan

Remove left side ignition cover. Vacuum advance mechanism(not vacuum can) if doesn't move freely(as in floppy free) may be staying advanced. If so, have to remove, clen and re-lubricate the bearing plate. Also check vacuum can that it is free and returns when arm is pushed in. May want to lightly lubricate shaft of vacuum can. After 30+- yrs., this is also a problem area. If this a 80 or earlier model, the centrifical advance is suspect to hanging up too.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

BTW, WD-40 is NOT a lube.......eats rust afer a fashion, and also the base metal.............likely the most misused product in the man-cave......81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Checked and lubed vac can, advance mechanism is free moving I changed the vac line from can to carb restarted bike and again the ignition advanced and would not come down, throttle cable lubed with cable lubeand linkage seems clear snd not causing this issue79 XS 1100 sf

If you are going thru the ignition under the left cover, don't forget there are mechanical advance springs behind the pick up coils that can break or get stuck either closed or open. JAT. You did say the timing was fine though.2H7 (79) owned since '89
