idle mixture screws

dropped off a wish list to the local dealer here in maine

I was surprised at what I can still get from yamaha

but the idle mixture screws are discontinued
and i had a guy rebuild my carbs, and he stuck two of the screws
in to tight and broke the tips off

I guess the term lightly seated, eludes him

anyway do any of you know where i can get them aftermarket

Your screws might be repairable. Clamp in a drill press, adjust untill they are turning true, and then use a file to reshape the tips. Finish off with some fine sandpaper for a smooth finish.

Just bought an idle mixture screw from the Yamaha dealer here in Tucson Az.
Around $12 ea.

I wonder if it had after-market pilot screws? I think the stock 78 screws are not tapered to form a thin point, but are instead blunt tipped and not as easily to get stuck in the pin holes as some of the later models and after market carb kits (K&L?). I would definately try the drill press, reshaping method, but round-off the tip slightly. I think the proper taper is what meters the fuel, not the tip.

I don't think so, Skids. The '80 and '81 tips are blunt, but a blunt '78 or '79 is broken.

well i compared the good one to the bad one
and the difference is about 1/16 of an inch
to restore the taper will shorten the screw up a lot
which will compress the spring at the top of the screw
and i feel will bottom the spring

is there any kind of a cross reference guide out there
which would tell us, if there was another model bike that would interchange
