Any experience with the air pod setup on these? The factory intake seems very restrictive, but I don't want to screw with something that is working either.

K&n
One thing that is a tiny bit easier to adjust for with stock exhaust is to replace the stock airbox filter with a K&N replacement like I did and then you only need to adjust for a small amount of increased flow.

These engines because of their intake, combustion chamber and exhaust design can be very hard to tune to other than the stock airbox or exhaust as it messes up the flow characteristics. Apparently Yamaha engineers put a lot of work into tuning everything together, and unless your going to change EVERYTHING (carbs included) your going to likely have fits getting good performance at anything but WOT.Cy

I put pods on mine mainly for looks and sound. Runs exactly the same as with the airbox as far as I can tell, ie, perfectly from idle to redline I did jet it a tad richer than stock. This is just my experience, not trying to be a contrarian.'79 XS11 Special, fork gaiters, Uni pods, 45 pilots, 140 mains, ditched the octy, solo seat, T kat fork brace
