oh, those. All the carb discussion had wiped the fork air valves out of my mind. You'd need 'bar setbacks rather than spacers if you wanted to lift the fork tubes up through the 'trees for the cafe look.

      cafe seat progress

heres the pics of where i'm at now. made the frame and now going to sheet metal it. KOTTCYCLES has a how to on you tube that i got my idea from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT31eNdQaEI , though i had to hand bend the steel since i dont have a bender.

      here it is so far.

I dont like the way he mounts his and thats a complaint i've heard from some of his customers, so i'm going to make mine mount a little like the stock seat. you can see the firts tab i made that goes in front by the tank where the stock seat attaches. now that i'm done eating lunch i'll go make the rear mounts and licence plate mount.

whats the plan on the intake?

Just checking: I heard you had plans on your intake then that you did the pipes and now that you are re-jetting, but what was the result on the intake?
Stock Box, Pods, Something one off?
That might alter how many jet sizes you go up so having the intake how you like it before tuning will save another round of tuning later. Sorry if what I'm saying is so basic it might be insulting, be we all come in at different skill levels - Tuning it right the once is enough fun!
That said jets are not the only way to richen the mix. you can adjust the floats as well. It appears we are running the same carbs, so these observations on mine might be useful. Ok I got the 1980 MNS with the carbs one would expect on it. these have the plastic floats that should be set at 23mm from the gasket surface. I had some but not much room to play with the float settings. I set mine at 22mm and need to test my results. 21mm was getting a little questionable as my floats where close to max travel - might work ok but I'm mechanicaly conservative. 20mm hit max travel and the floats where resting on the carb body - probably bad. So like I said I got to test mine, but one could do this first and then play with jets. Some on here swear by it - I think the older models may have more room to play with here. anyway food for thought. Now I'm going to go put my carbs back on.
So much easier without the box! - now if I could just get it right!
Also if the other fellow has not snatched up that back rest let me know.

the stock gas tank will be used mostly because I dont want to spend the money for a standard tank. But I was planning removing the emblems(might keep one to put on the garage wall though) whats going rate for them?

                    1:Pods

2:I couldnt agree more. after the pods and kerker are on I wont be touching the engine besides tuning the carbs. No insult taken, not everyone has mechanical experiance and sometimes the simple things need to be said.

3:Sorry the backrest was the first thing to go, i never even listed it for sale and your the 4th person to inquire about it.

if you want anything else just PM me. the only thing i have spent the time to list for sale is the seat, everything else removed is available. You can have first dibs cause I dont like shipping things.

It is a thread in stud. Some PB Blaster a vise grip and some heat will get it out. Should be able to find metric replacements at Ace Hardware.

small updates. been sick the last few days so i havent been working on it much. but got back out today for a bit.

-got the busted exhaust stud out, not just gotta go get a new on.

-stripped idle mixture screw on number 4 carb(had been soaking it for days in pb buster with no luck) so now i need a new one..

-got most of the fab work completed on the seat, its still a little rough but its all getting wrapped so that will hide the imperfections. for not having any body work tools of thin metal fabrication experiance I thought it turned out really nice! I'm happy with it anyways.

while this seat is getting covered i'll be making a new one for 2 riders.
