Picked up my xs11 special 2 days ago and thought i'd join up to pick some brains when i need it. This is my first bike and and i'm pretty stoked about it.

sorry to all the purists out there but im planning on turning her into a cafe style bike. i know shes heavy and not great in the corners but i like the style.

i got her with no working brakes and in desperate need of a tuneup and carb cleaning, but she's running. All it took to get the brakes running was bleeding them, though the master could use a rebuild. i already stripped off the windshield, the sissy bar, luggage rack, grab bar, and the double stand. Also just got my clubman bars in today, though time didnt allow them to go on today. progress pics to come.
80 xs11 special- pods, kerker, cafe seat/tail, clubmans.
2000 s10- 5.3 v8 swap, cam, stall, ford rear with 3.73s and posi, upgraded brakes, lowered, traction bars, larger sway bar, and a bunch of other stuff..

Welcome!! I got a poorly running bike as well and I found that a valve and cam chain adjustment made a world of difference. Try and sell the items you take off to people on the board, they are always looking for original accessories.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you have a very nice example of a Special, I can't believe your going to destroy. Nah, its ok I've seen a few mmbers on here do some very nice mods and make a very respectable looking cafe bike. What really burns my @ss is they people that take bike like yours and start taking it apart and end up choppin something off then lose interest in the project! You might consider riding it stock first..? Might fall in love with it. Anyways....l welcome to the thread.

              Hi Greg,
um, the cast grabrail holds the tail light on. Howdya hold the light onto the bike if it's support is gone?
And you check the oil level with the bike held upright. Losing the centrestand turns the oil level check into a 2 person + a spirit level operation.

I'm getting a brighter LED tail light that I will attach to a cafe seat.

I can check the oil with my jack or like you said a friend. The stand won't fit when I get a 4into1 anyways.

                    tearin her down

pulled off the carbs and air intake yesterday, this intake sucks, im either fabbing my own or going with pods.

are these the 80-81 carbs? ill be ordering gaskets for them today and just want to make sure i have the right ones.

i wouldnt have thought the frame on this thing was so beefy. everything else is looking pretty good so far. one petcock leaks a bit and all of the fuel line are looking pretty crappy but that is to be expected. the instide of the carb boots look good too.

also got the clubman bars on, had to make a small spacer for them to fit over the air inlets.

what would be a fair price for the seat? it is in almost perfect shape as the PO had it recovered shortly before i got it.

more updates to come soon. hoping to fab a cafe seat by this weekend so i can get it covered by next friday. now i just need a new tail light and less ugly blinkers.

                      Bingo!!

Let's see....:4 holes on the inlet bell instead'a 3, No upper "Tee" vent between 3+4 and 1+2, and the idle jet mixture screws are set down inside those protective "towers".

                      I'm convinced!!

                        Look just like mine.

                        Mine are cleaner, lol

                        I would say 80s carbs.

IIRC, I paid something like $90 or $95 for mine, which had also been recently recovered.

                            Hi NewGuy,
what air inlets you got that are anywhere near the handlebars?
I'd say ~$75 for the seat. NOT perfect shape as one hold-down has it's special bolt & nut missing and the other is completely gone plus it's retaining studs look to be busted off short. The cover is OK but it has to come off to replace those broken studs. And the purchaser has to find the replacement hold-downs.

The carbs are the 80-81style. What is inside will answer if they are 80 or 81. You will want to look at the main jet tower and see if there is a crossover to the pilot jet tower.
