I'm curious about the cooler, I do have one I installed on my Subaru for when I tow.. Don't have one on the XJ11 but I do have a really nice mini radiator that used to be part of my watercooling system on my computer. An easy access to the oil would be the oil delivery pipe running between the crankcase & head. Getting a hose with fittings should not be a problem and hooking those up to this mini radiator would be cake.

So where do these coolers attach to the engine and if they were stock outside the states, where did the factory attach the radiator to on the bike?

All European bikes came with the cooler. The oil take-off point is a circular thing which sandwiches between the engine and the oil filter housing. You can buy the complete setup easily enough, especially from Germany, where there are several for sale right now. I bought one a couple of years ago, ready to bolt on, with pipes and radiator for about $30 + shipping
XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Micron fork brace. Progressive front springs. Geezer regulator/rectifier. Stainless 4 into 2 exhaust. Auto CCT (Venturer 1300) SOLD. New project now on the go. 1980 European model.

This sounds like a no brainer especially for about 30 bucks. When you say they are available in Germany, can you give some specifics? Website? Ebay? Thank you

Mine hooks up to the lines going to the head. Probably nit the best way to do it but it seems to work ok.

I just recently found out that factory coolers were available. Probably would have done it 25 years ago, had I known. Problem for me is I don't have room above my headers for the adapter. Being on "Social Insecurity" I haven't the disposable income to replace an exhaust system for only this reason. Then, I'd have something else to worry about (leaking hoses/cooler/etc). I really, really need something else to worry about!!!

Mine has no oil cooler. Not saying she runs perfect but I never doubt her when its time to ride.

Far from pretty. As some will see at the "Lost in Minnesota" coming up this weekend.

I just had to extend the mounts on mine becuase I added the big crash hoop in the front and it took up the space where the cooler was. It was easy to adapt and everything fits just fine.

I've got 110,000 kms without an oil cooler or rebuild. Running like a top! But, I change the oil faithfully every 3000km. Still loving the bike!!

I wonder if the european models had coolers becuase of the traffic they have. In the US we might tend to have more open roads with less sitting. Unless of course you live in LA, CHI, or NYC.

Interesting point, that! It's the first time I've heard it but it makes sense.... You lot have all the big wide spaces, compared to lil' ole Europe

Traffic congestion crossed my mind too. Sitting still will run head temps through the roof. Only thing is, the coolers don't have fans. So, how much help would they really be in stop and go traffic?
I've got 46,000 on mine. Mostly highway miles. Thing gets awfully hot on the interstate, still uncomfortable to touch crank case after sitting for three hours after 40 miles at 70 MPH.
Mrdigitec, what kind of oil do you use? Changed how often?
