Are you talking a single trip, or the life of the bike? I've ridden to TX and back (going again this next week), and that round trip is 1400+ miles. I'm at 38K miles on the odo, but I've heard of some that went over 300K miles.

When I bought mine it had 68,000 on the clock, but the bearings washed out right after (really I think they were already gone but thick oil kept me from noticing till I changed the oil the first time). After the bearings started knocking I put another 8,000 on it before I changed the engine, and it was still running at that point. After the change I've got 90,000 on the bike now, but have NO idea how many miles the engine I put in has on it (81H engine that was rebuilt as some point with new cases with no SN and backcut gears in the tranny) but as bug said, there are bikes reported to have gone over 200,000 miles with no more than standard maint.

Mine's done over 287,000 klms (178,000 miles) and hasn't had the head off yet. Still goes strong, doesn't smoke, and only uses a little oil.

An XS1100 owner in Germany just bougth a wheel bearing from me. I asked for pix of his bike (a European, silver, standard one) which he told me he's had from new. He's done 433,000 km on it. Whatever that is in miles.....

Folks, no offense to James or Eveready, they're reporting what they know. I suspect they are talking about machines factory equipped with oil coolers. From all my engine building experience they are apples to oranges to the machines we were sold on this side of the pond. The high oil temps we see here will drastically shorten engine life. I sure would like to believe my bike will last that long, but I don't. Best thing to do is change the oil,, often. If you think you're doing it often enough, do it twice as often.
Mrdigitec seems to be the exception but maybe he too has a cooler.

I was wondering the same thing about the oil coolers. Any verified high mileage 11s (over 100K) without a cooler?

Bob Jones was in the states. Don't know if he had an oil cooler.

My bike has one. It was on there when I got it. Looks to be as old as the bike and it is mounted to where I have seen other standard bikes horns. Mine are under the tank.
