There are 2 generic types of cruise control kits out there. The first uses a vacuum bottle to provide a constant vacuum source for the controller; our bikes don't pull enough of a vacuum to do so. Kits used to run around $100.00.
The higher-priced option, typically $200, is an all-electronic solution that does not depend on a vacuum source and monitors engine RPM directly from the coils or other source. Generally these are a bit more involved for installation.
Neither type is is motorcycle-specific.
From the guys that I hear who have added either system, the greatest problem is over-running on the down side of a hill. In other words, the response time of the controller is slow, and you find that you are running far faster than you want after cresting a hill as the controllers don't "back off" quickly enough to simply maintain the set speed.
