Ask your dealer for:
2H7-W0042-00-00
Cylinder kit, Master
This is the rebuild kit for the rear master cylinder. I think it the same number for all models up to '81. The XJ takes a different number, 4W1-W0042-00-00
You might try Zanotti Motors, used by many on the list.

What's the difference between the primary and secondary rubber caps and how on earth to you stretch them to fit onto the piston, well stretch one of them anyway, I'm guessing the primary cap. They look almost identical but one is slightly more flared than the other. Why they don't come already fitted is beyond me.

Dan, I JUST rebuilt a rear, so here is the trick.
The LONGER (thicker) seal goes over that big part to the plunger side. Lube it and the rod with brake fluid, and us a THIN, SMALL flat screw driver to start the seal over the plunger. I then used my fingers to walk the seal over the plunger and into the grove it belonged. Remember, the flare or wide part of the seals face the small end of the plunger.

Thanks Ray, I soaked them in brake fluid for an hour and they slipped on easily. That's the rear master cylinder taken care of (paint yet to be done). All I have now are the front and rear calipers and the front master cylinder, then I'll install the new s/s lines. Fun eh?
