    i was intrigued to learn some yamaha models began at vin number 000101.this makes me wonder if they also FINISHED at a 3 digit number.i am especially interested as i own an xs 1100 rh,which numbers are 000999.is this the last made???i also find it interesting that i have heard they were made 1981-82 but mine is a first of 1983 model.they say there were 1000 made but was it 898? any comments welcomed.thankyou.

      rh

      hi
      have been doing some reading and the sport was made up to 1984.the RH is only for the 1981 version.ie
      e = 1978
      f = 1979
      sf 1979
      g = 1980
      sg = 1980
      lg = 1980
      h = 1981
      sh = 1981
      lh = 1981
      rh = 1981
      sport = 1981-1984
      manns smidtt in south africa has a model directory but i cant find it any one got it on file

        if you check out bikernet.com it has a full listing there,i have four xs1100s,one was first made in 1978 but was first reg in 1995 was in a crate in spain,so the date of first reg as here in the uk will sometimes be different than date of build,if you get what i mean.

              this is impossible, as that is my bikes engine and frame number and its a 1/83.yamaha australia(or any motor company for that matter)is not permitted to make 2 identical bikes.this is all totaly wrong, as the bike you mentioned is mine and i know its vin no and year.sorry guys but you have a bad information source.

                i would love to see this so called yamaha document,as i dont belive this exists,unlike my bike which is here right now. 5n5 000999.1/83 do you understand that this bike is real and not a fantasy

                  hey motorbike69 calm down a little bit,having spoke to people over here in the uk and even yamaha have said that it is unlikely that 2 bike have the same frame no.as ia have said before go to www.bikernet.com there is a full list of all the models that were made so what i suggest is go to your bike and copy the frame no down inc the first three dig,then if any one else has the same frame no then you both should get in touch with yamaha.every one on this forum is here to help each other.

                    ask yamaha yourself they will tell you all you want to know.i sent the reply to your email address.as for the larger tank i can find no evedence that it was a yamaha option.i have gen yamaha workshop manual for a rh and also gen yamaha owners manual.i would say that it was a dealer option as the 15 ltr tank got some bad press in 1981 revs test cb1100r,gsx1100.xs1100rh compair test.i have a copy of that to.

                      G'day. Just my 2 cents worth. Maybe your bike was made in 81/82 and then complianced after that. I mean is it not possible that there may have been left over stock in japan or south africa that would not necessarily be compliance plated correctly for australia.
                      0101minus 0999 minus doesnt make your bike number 1000. I believe the RH model started at 0101. And it was you who suggested there was a thousand made.
                      As an aside I think all runs of manufacture have a set point in time Sales are as they go

                        i never said my bike was no 1000 i said is it the last rh?considering they started at 5n5 000101 and my bike is 5n5 000999 i think it may be the last.maybe it was made in 81 and taged an 83, that i dont know and dont claim to know.what i do know that it has australian compliance plate and was sold new in sydney australia in 83.so anyone who says the bike 5n5 000999 is an 81 complianced bike is wrong cause its my bike and its 1/83.no one can make 2 identical bikes.the long range touring tank was an option on the xs 1100 rh,i have seen 3 of them on australian complianced bikes and the owners say they also had these tanks optioned from new,my bike has the original tank and the touring tank which has never been fitted to the bike.if my bike was anything else but a xs 1100rh it wouldnt have the numbers 5n5 000999,sorry if it was anything else it couldnt have these numbers.

                          I am sorry. I am not trying to suggest yours is not an RH.
                          The confusing issue is the compliance date 83.
                          I spoke to Jim and he and I are of the opinion that it may be a last of run bike and that it may have origiaally been destined for elsewhere ie South Africa perhaps where one would assume that their compliance may be different. Further if that was the case then it would possibly have to be "re complianced" for the exixting Australian standard.
                          As to the other 23 litre tank it was probably more than likely they were available as an option though not necessarily sold widely. I can interchange either of my tanks and they both secure properly.
                          I had a look through some of the threads and there is a model ID for non american cycles. the only problem I have is with 1 of my own bikes which does not line up with the numbers quoted and that bike is a matching number bike.
                          Just for the record my 2 RHs are manufacture/ compliance? 2/81 VIN 185 and the other is 8/81 Vin 600 or 606 so if I look at the production rate and the plate date it suggests that yours was probably made around 81.
                          My 80G model is numerically correct but the 82 is left of center.
                          Hope this clears up a bit.

                            RH

                            Just had another thought. All the Xs models had a suffix attached that designated a year of manufacture allowing that an flow would occur into the following year. So a yammie xs 650 B was a 75 model. A C was a 76 model then a 650c. In 77 the 650 d and new 750d were released. And that follows for all Xs models.
                            My 650 special is a sh. My 1100 is an h. The R bikes were RH and so on

                              thanks glen.look like you said maybe my bike was bound for elsewhere,i dont know that.i also dont know why its a 1/83 either.but i do wonder, why its 5n5 000999 1/83 and australian complainced?was the last 81 taged bike 000998 ?what i wonder is what was the oldest bike no you know of and month and year.i know the bike you just stated is the earliest bike no i have heard of.do you know of any earlier bikes than yours?do you know where bike no 5n5 000101 is?as id like to buy this bike(i suppose a few people do).the touring tank for my bike is not the same shape as the early xs 11 .similar in shape but rounder.
