When my 78 XS11 sits out in the sun all day, the front brakes lock up and won't let go. I think its because the fluid gets hot and builds up pressure. Shouldn't there be a vent to keep thin from happening? Any suggestions?

    hi rick,
theres no vents in a hydraulic brake line,
theres a small hole in the master cylinder than
can block up, do a search for spooge hole and
u should find a few threads about it.

Have you changed the fluid? Have you rebuilt the calipers?

The article on cleaning the spooge hole seems to have worked. When I pulled the master cylinder apart, I found a real mess. Cleaned it out good and ran a small wire through the spooge, (it was plugged solid). And problem seems to be gone. Would still like to rebuild break calipers and master cylinder. Anyone know the best place to get rebuild kits?

if the brakes are working ull probably find u wont need
a kit as such, as long as the rubbers arent swollen or torn
the parts can be cleaned up and put back together without
any problems, use hot water to clean the parts and rubber grease
or brake fluid on the seals when reassembling.

Thanks for the info. Left front caliper is leaking a little bit. Could be form when the spooge was plugged and it build up pressure. Guess I'll know when I tear it apart. Was thinking it might be good to have new rubber just in case. Left front shock is leaking a bit also. Just got to take some time and giver her some TLC.

I got my MS & Caliper kits from oldbikebarn.com last week and am happy with the results. I also bought stainless lines for $80 from this ebay person "coastguard1975" and am happy with them as well.

My rear brakes were hanging up even after I cleaned them. So I read up on here and it turns out that the brake lines tend to deteriorate and clog the system. Right now I'm waiting for a package from BikeBandit.com because I tore the slider boot when I was going threw the caliper. They are also sending me fork oil since one of them decided to start leaking all over my front brake this week.
