    Yes, the 3J6 numbers in your VIN say so. The link I posted in post #25 is to a VIN# list of models and original color codes.

      Hi Jeff,
      XS11 main visible differences:- Special (Standard)
      Front wheel in front of fork slider (at bottom of slider)
      3.9 USG gas tank (5.3 USG gas tank)
      ATE pattern swiveling front calipers (normal calipers)
      FYI the XS650s all used "Standard" pattern front forks & calipers.
      XS650 Specials have a 2.9 USG gas tank vs the Standard's 4 USG.
      The Special's rear shocks are more raked.
      '80 & up seats lift off. Pre '80 seats hinge up.
      The seat shapes vary more by year than by model.

        Thanks for the info. I didn't think the tank was that big. Are the tanks interchangeable? I was thinking this was a 4 gallon tank. Maybe it was swapped out...

            My fault. I misread that post. The standard has the bigger tank, I get it. Very glad to be special!

              Correct. You can swap to the standard tank with just minor issues. You need the petcocks off the standard tank, you then get rid of the octy (if you even still have it). Also the fuel level sender is located on the opposite side of the tank tunnel, I think you need to flip the sensor and then the wires point forward and may be a little short, cant remember off hand for sure.
