FYI crew, perfect oil drain plug replacement. NAPA once again, pn: bk 704-1902 and has a captured 'o'-ring gasket!

If I might be so bold, may I suggest to the Mods that a 'parts interchange' forum be added to the 'repairs' or 'mods' forums? Then info like this could be posted there for ease of finding. The Jaguar site I go to has this, and it's an invaluable resource. For that matter, could some newer, updated info be posted to these forums? They're both 'locked', and neither has had any updates for several years...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

OK, maybe not "perfect", but the OE plug isn't magnetic either.

It will work for the md, but not the fd/............very true, the smaller ID recess won't allow the large OD of the plug to work. I had one of those magnetic plugs and found that the thread was not quite to specification. Probably made in China as it was loose and eventually destroyed the threads in the pan because tightening it enough to make it seal would strip the threads...You can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life...

Re the non-magnetic quality of this drain plug..... here's a little idea that I've used a lot. If you have an old computer hard-drive, eg when upgrading PC or whatever, take it to pieces. Inside them are the most powerful small magnets! Get into the hard drive and destroy it, prising out the small silver magnet which usually has a little lug on one side of it. They really are super-thin and flat and very powerful indeed; it's difficult to separate two of them joined together.
What I've done in the past (before using a spare FD plug in the oil pan) is to put one of these little magnets onto the drain plug. They end up magnetising the whole plug eventually. Incidentally, they are great for just sticking on the ferrous sump on cars. I have half a dozen on mine and I doubt any ferrous particle gets past them.
Of course, these little magnets are also great for messing about with but....watch your fingers!

I just picked up a pack of aluminum crush washers for my middle drive made by the same company. If you replace them every once in a while you don't need to torque the hell out of the drain plugs to get them to seal up. The one I removed from my middle drive grudge crushed I thought it was part of the bolt!
I agree though, the magnet is necessary especially for the middle drive...'79 XS11 F
