oil based enamel
I've heard a good case for good old brush on oil based enamel. I've seen the pics and they look good and its durable. Sounds easy too.

Not sure where the thread is, but is very recent. Check out CrazySteve's simple curing process using the motor for gradual curing..........81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

I can't even find the post....
Anyway, use a quality oil base enamel and brush it on. Note that this is for the barrels/head, although you could do the rest of the motor if you wanted. Works well on the rough-cast of the top end. Cure by starting the bike and warming it until you just start to smell paint, then shut it off. Let it cool, then repeat. Do this until the paint smell starts to fade (6-8 times). Then start over, but now let the bike come up to full temp before shutting it off. About another 4-6 times, the paint smell should have pretty much faded by now, and you're good to go.
For the lower cases, a good quality rattlecan will work; I used Eastwood wheel paint as the color's pretty close and it has the right semi-gloss sheen.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

PJ1 satin black case paint or gloss black case paint is superb stuff. Full of harful chemicals and so on, so it must be good. I've used it for 25 years and it's still as good as it ever was. These pix are the satin black, which is virtually indistinguishable from the factory finish.
