  • Yawn.... another bike build...

Well, I've been thrashing pretty heavy on the SG, and have it far enough along to where it's worth looking at...

Cleaned and primered frame. I did a couple small mods; removed the reflector mounts at the neck (the reflectors are MIA anyway..) and modded the rear turn mounts to eliminate those rubber isolators..

... welded in a couple of heavy shock absorber washers; perfect for this.

... lots of parts to install...

Repainted motor back in the frame, starting to install the rest...

Rear wheel/fender on, new turn sigs fitted...

... as well as the exhaust, front end. I used a 'standard' fork assembly, as I'm just not enamoured of the Special front brakes. I also used a 17" rear wheel, as the taller tire fills the wheel opening better IMO. I know that limits tire choices, but I just like the looks better.

Next up is wiring (oh, joy..), install/repair the harness, headlight, gauges, etc...

... somewhere in this pile is the harness I'm going to use...

Still have to do the carbs and bodywork on the tank (it is clean inside ) and pick a color. I'm building this one for resale, so it'll probably be boring black or resale red...

Definitely not yer first rodeo! Nice seeing the stripper pics, all she needed was a pair of high heels and a pole.

It looks like some lucky person is gonna get to own a brand-new, thirty year old motorbike. Good job.

Nope, this ain't the first one I've done... here's the last one I did..

                    [IMG][/IMG]

This one was a bit harder, as there's very, very few unmodified stock parts left, and 90% of the custom stuff was hand made. But a lot of this is just patience and time. For a basic refurb like the SG, it's just a matter of being very methodical, check everything possible before assembly, and attention to detail when reassembling. Very time consuming (at least for me), but I'm retired, so this keeps me out of the bars...

The funny part is I bought this bike for parts (mostly the titled frame), but after getting some more suitable parts, figured I'd put it back together; these things are disappearing too fast as it is...

Good yer savin' another XS instead of parting her out.

I like the Sporty. It even classes up the Jags just by it's presence. Cool sister bar topper. What is it?

Steve, looks good, that motor looks sharp! Oh no, Standard single bushing forks, want some good brakes huh? Those forks have more stiction than the Special type, JMHO.

                            wiring harness

After seeing your wiring harness, I was wondering how you store your X-mas lights. Sure is a testiment to your capabilities though, how you could make sense out of that pile. Like the shop too BTW. Bikes going to look great I'd like to see the finished product.
