  • XJ11 Engine paint & other paint

I'm at the point in this rehab I need to decide on which paint to use. There's some rust spots on the frame I need to touch up, I've got the calipers that need repainted and then there's the cooling fins & Valve cover.

None of those are going to need the 2,000F paint & probably 500F paint will be fine for all. Do I use gloss or flat black?

Any brand of spray can that seems to work best?

    Thanks

I have used Duplicolor Engine Enamel a few times with great results, as long as your part does not get over 500 degrees. It breathes well and is durable and they also have a clear over coat that can be used to keep your finish nicer longer.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

PJ-1 is the only paint I have seen that is almost and exact OEM finish and durability.

Duplicolor I've heard of and it's at AutoZone.

PJ-1 I haven't heard of. Where is it usually found & which color do I look for? Gloss black or flat black?

        Thanks

You can get PJ-1 at http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=1752. It's excellent paint. You might find it at your local cycle shop.

Thanks Larry, I ordered two cans from them. The only PJ1 I could find locally was some lube by that name at the harley dealer.

It's good paint but you want follow the directions, don't spray it at a temp of less than 70F. That includes the temp of the part you are painting.
