Whooaaa....before you go ordering jets, clean the carbs REALLY well!! Pull all the jets and make sure ALL of the little holes are open and that ALL the passages are really clean.

A little gunk in the small passages of the idle circuit could just as easily lean out your mixture more than the jet change your thinking of.

      benxs1100,

For what it's worth, it isn't a bad thing to have the carb kits from GeorgeFix laying around, you will probably use some parts from them at different times.

With that said, you just mentioned you hadn't done a full cleaning of the carbs, so I'd say take them apart and do just that, give everything which would include the pilot circuit and associated parts a good cleaning. You can see easily if the pilot adj screws have nice sharp pointed ends or if they are bent/mashed/broken. And you will know the pilot jets themselves are cleaned out and not part of the issue, as clogged/impeded pilot jets would make it run lean with too little fuel and exaggerate the lean tendency the pods would already be contributing to.

Won't be too much of an issue for you, as you are familiar with putting the carbs on and off, and sync'ing, so maybe give that a try while the carb kits are on the way from GeorgeFix.

I'm not sure if those kits have one size larger pilot jets or not, can't remember what came in mine without looking at them. And different kits might have more or less parts depending on the specific kit.

As to jets, George will sell individual jets if you contact him. I have bought them from my local bike shop for $4 a piece for the air jets. Should be about the same for pilots I would think. When you order from a shop though, make sure they get the B30/96 style pilot jets. Do not get the VM style or the N151 style, they will scre win just fine but the bike will run like total crap if at all!!!

Thanks for all the input guys. I just finished totally cleaning the carbs but I don't think gunked up jets were the problem. The mains and the pilots were really clean and the mixture screws look perfect. I never bothered cleaning the carbs because it ran flawlessly from the day I got it. I will go ahead and contact georgefix for individual jets I think to save some money. The kits he has listed now have the 42.5s listed.

His kits typically come with stock jetting only. If you order the kits form him, contact him ahead of time and let him know you want something other than stock jetting, he should be able to swap that out for you.

                Good deal benxs1100!

Yeah, now that you emphasize that the bike ran flawlessly from the get-go, I'd say everything has been eliminated, so it's time for the pilot jet swap!

                Keep us posted!

People go with pods because they look way cooler than the airbox... and the sound is incredible ... plus not everone has problems with them. My pods didnt cause any issues. Also some bikes need to be jetted corrcectly with exhaust right so why bother with aftermarket exhaust...

Called my local parts unlimited dealer this morning (the local yamaha dealer) and low and behold all 4 jets are only going to run me 8 bucks. Not a bad deal.

So I got the new pilots in and the carbs are tuned with the colortune. Unfortuneatly I am still having a huge hesitation when I blip the throttle and ride at low RPM. It sounds like air getting sucked in hardcore. I tried spraying them with WD40 while the bike was running but I could not notice any change so I sprayed them with carb cleaner and the idle would drop. So I pulled them off and cannot find any cracks on the inside but I smeared em up with some RTV on the outside just to be safe. Only thing I can think of is that they are not getting a good seal to the intake because of the weight of the carbs. I am putting them back on with a little high temp silicone and am going to make a bracket to help support the carbs tomorrow. I am also replacing the vacuum line to the octy and vacuum advance just to be safe.

Still a problem. I sealed the boots and replaced the vacuum lines so I pulled the pods and fired it up to watch the needles. Visually they seem to be working properly but if I put my hand behind the opening I can feel air or an air fuel mix blowing back out of carbs 1 and 4 while I cannot feel that on 2 and 3. I am at a total loss here.
