I did it to myself. When I took the set of carbs for my F apart to rebuild I replaced the butterfly shaft seals. I took the thin flat washers into work and made them nice and flat. Then the gremlins stole them. I have fricking tore everything apart looking for them, no luck. Soooo. Is it a big deal to just use regular lock washers in their place? It doesn't look right. I know because I have a rack of 80/81 carbs that have them. Any ideas, opinions, or concerns about using regular lock washers?

No Don, it's the shafts that the brass butterflys slide thru. I ground the phillips head screw ends off because they are staked, so I could replace the shaft seals. I replaced the butterfly screws with stainless flathead allen screws. When I went to install the linkage between the carbs, the bendable washers were so bent up I decided to fix them by squeezing them in a grinding vise. That's when the gremlins stole them.
Steve, I thought of that, but was concerned that fuel, heat, and vibration would work them loose. I figured that is why Mother Yamaha put them on there in the first place. Sort of like safety wire or a cotter pin. I am guessing you mean the red automotive loctite is the type to use.1979XS1100SF
