  • Installing the head: 12 washers and 12 acorn nuts?

Hey guys, my manual says to replace the twelve washers and acorn nuts on my 1980G...is it possible that the four interior acorns don't have washers? I think that I only took eight off, but the Clymer's says twelve. I got more washers at the wreckers, but I want to be sure that I need twelve washers for the twelve acorns. I'd hate to snap something off because I fixed a problem that wasn't a problem.

        Head Washers

Look a little closer. Mine was the same way. The washers are there, but look like a boss. It took some more cleaning and a bump with a drift to knock them loose.

          Head Washers cont.......

As an after thought, you can check for the washers by using a magnet, washers are magnetic, the head is not.

Naw, Lucky, I'd had the head off and worked on the valves and a bunch of other crap, so them being stuck on was not an issue. The plastic compartment storage into which I'd put the parts as I took them off was short four, but I pulled the head months ago, so I must have misplaced them, although I thought I was careful. I searched all of the usual suspects to no avail. I'll probably find them when I go searching for one of the four 12mm sockets I can never find....

What did you find as the problem last time?

Do you have any pics of the piston/combustion chamber after cleaning them up?
