Diaphragms
If you are talking about the entire assembly, the diaphragm and slide body, the answer is no. As for the diaphragm alone, I don't know. Are you trying to rebuild your existing slides or replace the whole assembly?1979XS1100SF

As Tim said, the diaphram/slide won't swap, but you can swap just the diaphram. A bit tricky to get off the old slide and on to the new, but doable...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Diaphragm Swap
Thanks Steve, I was ready to try to see if they were swappable by turning one upside down on a carb body. I guess I could have just laid one on top of a 78/79 slide assembly. By the way, how do you get them apart?1979XS1100SF

heres a link to a method of changing the

Fortunately I don't need to do a change right know. I have a spare set of 78/79 slide assemblies. I also have a set of 80/81 slides that came with a parts bike. The PO had grafted a 81SH carb into a rack of 78/79 carbs with perdictable results.1979XS1100SF

Actually, I've swapped them without removing the plastic ring or modifying anything. I simply pulled them off (carefully, as not to tear it), then 'stretched' them to reinstall. That's where it gets tricky, but careful working at it can get them back on. Use a little WD40 for lube, it helps...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

How does one tell the difference between 78/79 and 80/81 slides? I have a box with 8 sets and know that there is one set of each.

I replaced my four diaphragms easily without having to cut the top off. It's so simple to do that I would recommend doing it in the way described here. I personally don't like the idea of cutting the tops off because it will affect the integrity of the component and the weights of each slide assembly may vary afterwards:

I bought my diaphragms from this US seller and they fitted easily. You definitely need lighter fluid as a lubricant... it's the best stuff for it. My old diaphragms were torn and pin-holed. The new ones made a huge difference to the running of the bike.XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Micron fork brace.
