  • MC plunger

So I've ready many threads about MC's....dismantling, mantling (well if you DISmantle, you need to mantle cleaning, etc but I'm stuck on this. How does one get the expletive plunger out of the cylinder? I thought the big deal was getting the circlip out and once that was clear, voila!

But no, it's as tight in there now as it was. Please tell me that I'm missing another step and the thing isn't rusted in there. The plunger moves and it stopped the bike before I took it apart.

Is this another brute force/ignorance/bigger hammer thing?

    Thanks
    Bob

If I just put "Front" the message is too short so I have to blabber on and on and on........

Ok so you took the rubber off and removed the spring clip that holds that rubber on right!

Not quite in that order, but the two are off yes. Then there's a little plastic oring I removed to get at the circlip.

Rust. That's pretty much all I can see after removing the circlip.

I got it. Threw caution to the wind and drifted it. Actually took a drift and gave it a smack from the other side and it popped out. The rust I was seeing was another oring...and it is pretty much all rust. And inside was disgusting.

                    Cleaning time!

Ooo,ooo, can I get in on the fun?
If there is a lot of spooge where the snap ring was, take a lolley pop stick, cut the end square, and try to work the crud out of the bore. You want to scrape the crub off, withou scaring the bore. A square end bearing scraper works, but they are like hens teeth, so work with what you have. If it still won't come out, take a rubber nozzel on your air spritzer, put it in the brake line hole, aim the open end at the cat, and give it a 90psi blast.
The general idea is to get ALL the crud out of the bore first, so the piston doesn't wedge up on it as it comes out.
                      Worked for me, YMMV. CZ

That oring must be rusted in there pretty good too, then.

Yeah sure, just as i got the darn thing apart.
I had to tug it a lot but it came out just fine, once that circlip was out.
