  • exhaust painted finally

finally got to feeling like tackleing it a few days ago, i used eastwood silver high temperture coating in the spray can. turned out ok, not exactly what i wanted but will do for now. wanted to sand the pits out of the down pipes, could'nt find any good sand paper to get it done with, so i just made do with what i had. may go back and redo them later after i see how the coating holds up. here is the link to the coating used http://www.eastwood.com/silver-hi-temp-coating.html and some pictures, here is what my bike looked like when i bought it a couple years ago.

here is before the coating was put on, and before i sanded them.

then finally the spray painted finished and installed on the bike.

    and a close up.

not that great but maybe it will save the pipes til i feel like doing it again. if you do this to your bike just to let you know. i sprayed the nuts on the header flanges each day for a week with w/d 40 before trying to break them loose. i tried looseing them a year ago and snapped one off first try. if the pits were sanded smooth it would have been nice, got my mulflers all cleaned up anyway and welded a stress crack.

Man, that looks great! It'd be a lot of work to grind all the pitting down smooth, just ride it until next time you have to repaint them!

I've been bathing my '79 in oil off and on for months now and the rusted nuts and bolts have been coming apart pretty easily now that I've started tearing into it.

              thanks

thanks, for looking, the good about this bike is it just had 11000 miles when i took it in , the guy i got it from let it sit outside for a year and half before he decided to sell it. the only thing that was wrong with it is the vacum hose had a crack in it. took me 10 min. to fix it when i unloaded it in the yard. i have rode it one summer adding another thousand miles. saving it for my retirement ride. i have my first xs bike i love to ride 79xs spec. another year on that mans patio would have spoiled the whole bike.
