finally got to feeling like tackleing it a few days ago, i used eastwood silver high temperture coating in the spray can. turned out ok, not exactly what i wanted but will do for now. wanted to sand the pits out of the down pipes, could'nt find any good sand paper to get it done with, so i just made do with what i had. may go back and redo them later after i see how the coating holds up. here is the link to the coating used http://www.eastwood.com/silver-hi-temp-coating.html and some pictures, here is what my bike looked like when i bought it a couple years ago.
here is before the coating was put on, and before i sanded them.
then finally the spray painted finished and installed on the bike.
and a close up.
not that great but maybe it will save the pipes til i feel like doing it again. if you do this to your bike just to let you know. i sprayed the nuts on the header flanges each day for a week with w/d 40 before trying to break them loose. i tried looseing them a year ago and snapped one off first try. if the pits were sanded smooth it would have been nice, got my mulflers all cleaned up anyway and welded a stress crack.
