            Hots off to you sir!!! That is a tremendous transformation. I give all the credit in the world to the folks who can get that kind of polishing done. I have neither the skill nor the patience for it. Mostly the patience I think!

              Polishing

              Thanks for the kind words.
              I must admit I am really pleased with the result, lots of thanks to Mack from the forum who has been offering loads of advice and encouragement since I started the project. The bike had been left standing unused for the last 10 years, so it really shows the great build quality from new.
              The easiest way I found of polishing the casings was to initially clean them up with one of those large "scotche" and fine emery cloth flap wheels, then just loads of hours on a bench mounted buffer with coarse and fine buffing compound. Final finish with solvo autosol.

                  Super sweet!

                  What did you do to clean out in-between the cylinder cooling fins?

                  Hope my XJ11 project comes out nearly that nice!

                    Credit

                    Thanx for the kind mention but Paul your going to have to accept all the credit yourself. Advise and encouragement is what this site is all about. Guy's he has a vibration at 6K. I told him to check that his cam chain is tight, retorque everything but pay particular attention to the exhaust and to check his float heights as running lean can cause a slight vibration. Did I miss anything?

                        I just got done doing that... mine were even worse than his. I used a wire bore brush from a gun cleaning kit (.38, .357 size) with a homemade handle. The brushes are about $1.50 each, I went through three of them. Slow process, but that will get into nearly all the little crannies and take off the oxidized metal and dead paint. I also scrubbed them out with thinner and an old tooth brush.
