  • XS11 no more

After 15 years of ownership and 122,000 miles, it was time to let it go. A major problem was both crankshaft oil seals were leaking and was afraid to split the crankcase because it could do more damage to an otherwise good running motor.

It was a great mount; daily commuter, good unit to explore places around Dallas / Ft Worth, did my first long ride from Texas to Ohio, and qualified me into the Iron Butt Association.

But all things come to an end as parts or donor bikes were getting harder to find, the fairing, bags, bits and pieces were wearing out. Found a 2004 Honda ST1300 which the dealer offered a $500 trade-in value. Couldn't pass it up so now "Blue Bulldog" and me will make new memories.

I'll keep in touch and pass my experience to any who will listen. The XS11 is a great bike...

      Hey Nikon,

If you're still wanting to keep and use your XS11, you don't have to split the cases to do the crank seals. It's been posted that you can get seals that can be fitted without splitting the cases. And I believe it was JOHN there in DFW that posted about that, he provided the seal #'s and technique as well, I probably have it saved in the TIPS UNDER CONSTRUCTION in the admin forum, just haven't gotten around to making it a formal tip!

SO..if it's still otherwise running strong, you could let another XSive get ahold of it, and fix the seals, and perhaps let it put 200K on the clock!?

Wish you and I had known we are so close to one another - I'm out in Lavon and just picked up a donar bike (that turns out to be a midnight special) and I would have made you a steal of a deal on the engine... odometer shows 14k miles.
Which Honda dealer is your bike at .... maybe I'll run by and pick it up....

As a matter of fact, I also have an '03 1300ST. Love the bike for trips. It averaged over 50mpg from Reno to the Colorado line. It is a different experience than riding any of the three xs1100s. The ST sounds a lot like a sewing machine and for cutting noise on long trips, that is nice. BUT the xs1100s have "attitude" or "spirit". They just have a different feel. Fun riding!

speedi-sleeves, fit over shaft and seal the groove caused by years of friction wear from the seal. Works great but has to be installed backwards.
