On early style carbs you can get major flooding if the fuel line is connected to one of the upper "T"s between carb pairs as that is a vent fitting, not a fuel supply fitting. This should not be your problem as it sounds like you are workingon later style carbs, which are the only ones with o-rings around the body of the float valve. These are later model carbs, aren't they?

And the winner is.....

The diaphram in the petcock may be bad allowing the gas to enter the vac port on #3 cyl.

Thanks, I kept asking myself "what is different about this carb?" and the answer was one of the the vacuum ports. I took apart the fuelcock and sure enough there was a small rip in it.

This has saved me a lot more "dicking" around (sorry planedick, I couldn't resist). At least now I am pretty good at removing and replacing the carb set.
