I am looking for the rubbers that go above and below the headlight ears on a 1980 MNS. Can't find them available, and i thought maybe someone had used something else i place. It looks like a thermostat gasket like the one for the gas cap would work, but it was not quite thick enough. Any ideas? If there is somewhere to buy them new, i will.

You're probably not going to find those rubber rings new anywhere. What I would do is find some type of rubber/vinyl hose the right diameter and carefully slice off a piece the correct length, HTH2H7 (79) owned since '89
3H3 owned since '06

Try a hydraulics place for some extra-large o-rings. Those are just anti-rattle bushings anyway....Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

On a standard I used plumbing slip nut washers.
The black neoprene ones size 1-1/2"
Any hardware store should have them.
Not sure if the special forks are a different diameter but probably worth a shot.

My wife always wonders how I can go to a hardware store and just need one thing and then spend an hour there and still only come out with that one thing. Ya gotta look at what things could be used for not just what they are SUPPOSED to be used for!Nathan

Damn Nate you got that right. I spent an hour today @ Menards looking for pieces I could use ( or bend, or drill, etc) to make hangers for my hard bags.
Think I've got it figured.Tom Clisham

good luck finding new ones!
What you could try is finding the right size TetraSeals, (essentially, they are square o-rings)

A competent seal and bearing retailer should be able to find them for you.Fred Hill, S'toon

I used an o-ring below the cover plate, and a sink rubber above. The combination worked great.1980 XS1100LG Midnight
