I've always used dry graphite powder. It lubricates well and won't stiffen up in cold temperatures. Should be able to get it at the hardware store, or maybe someplace where they cut keys.

There is also a product called 'lock eaze' used for de-iceing locks. Look for the version of it "with graphite". The alcohol carries graphite powder in with it, gets deeper inside, and leaves the dry graphite behind when the alchohol evaporates.

I opened mine up and took it all apart. Cleaned all the contacts and used dielectric grease on them. Graphite is common, but won't get rid of existing corrosion.

I do believe he was asking about the mechanical aspect of the ign switch (tumblers and body) as opposed to the elecrtrical contacts. He mentioned "locks and ignition".

Keep in mind that if you use a liquid lube of any kind, it will attract and hold dirt, and cause wear. The dry graphite is the best.

A little bit of graphite as mentioned will do wonders for that. I won't mention any other products for problems of that kind, being married to an MD you should already be aware of those.
