A little bit of WD40 and a thumb workout might work for you. Should just kinda rub off.

          Hey Lucky,

Are you sure it's gasket material?? They/Yamaha didn't use gaskets until the XJ's. The boots have a metal inner layer for strength to bolt to the head. The rubber is very thin over the metal there, and with years/decades of wear, it gets hardened, cracks, peels, crumbles, etc.!

SO...if after removing the "gasket" you are at the base metal, then it was that thin rubber layer that had heat/dry rotted. Folks have then used gaskets and even fuel resistant sealant to secure them to the head with an airtight seal!

i stick a piece of wet and dry on a sheet
of thick glass and rub the intakes on that
itll keep the surface of the intake flat, then u can use
rtv to seal it against the head.
