My issue is that a PO has broken the tips of three of the mixture screws off in the Carb bodies. Hoping against hope I have sprayed them with nearly everything I have in the garage and now I'm trying Marvel Mystery Oil. I'm pretty sure I know whatvi SHOULD do ( throw them in the can ) but I'm not ready to give in to that. Thinkin bout trying the ultrasonic cleaner but so far I'm not impressed with how its cleaning. ANY thoughts ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. BTW is anyone else on here. From the Phoenix area?

Do a search on mixture screw tip and broken or stuck. LOTS of options for how to get them out. One of them may work for you.
The most popular way that has seemed to work recently for folks is to put the carbs in the freezer for a bit and try to push it out. The brass the screw is made out of shrinks more than the aluminum and it can loosen them enough to get them out.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Hi Fireplug,
if all else fails, drill the bastards out.
A hand-held drill will not be precise enough to do the job.
You'll need to use a drill press so you can centre the drill bit and you'll need to block the carb body up dead square on the drill press base plate.
A 1mm drill bit is just about right but we used a 1/16" because that's the skinniest drill bit that the chuck on our drill press will grip.
If you use the 1/16" drill bit just don't thread the new needle out as far; worked OK for us.Fred Hill, S'toon

Carbs
If all else fails and they are 78-79carbs, I think I have some spare bodies I could sell you. You would need to completely disassemble to replace.78 XS1100E Standard

The idea is to get the stuck pin frozen and the aluminum body hot. this will open the clearance around the pin and it should press out easily.
To do this sprayCO2 around the pin and pin or place in freezer until carbs are as cold as the freezer, several hours. Using a small hose or tube over the pin, heat the carb body in the area to swell the aluminum up and open the clearance.
Idea is to not heat the pin while heating the carb body.

Drill press I say should be last resort, if by chance you change the holes even a little it could make it VERY hard to tune the carbs!Nathan

like I said, "if all else fails". But WTF, like anybody else, you need a drill press anyway!
While a posh $1,000 floor model would really enhance a person's workshop, a Harbor Freight bench drill on special at $69.99 is all you really need.Fred Hill, S'toon
