For the XS... the oil filter bolt is still readily available since it still fits a few of the more modern bikes.
Any Yamaha dealer should have one in stock. The original stock part is a bit expensive but the aftermarket replacements are only about $8 or so.
Online.... you can order one from Parts-n-More, Power Sports Pro (PartsFish) or Dennis Kirk.
If you are having difficulty getting the bolt out.... since they are quite oftentimes grossly overtorqued..... you can tack weld a socket over what is left of the bolt head and wrench it out that way.1978 XS1100E "Flashback"

Ha. I went through the same thing. The dealer wanted $68 or some crap for the bolt. I did see it on an online catalog for about $8 somewhere like the others.
What I did is used an bolt extractor (like an opposite e-z out. I got a set at Sears for $20). I wleded a big deep nut on the bolt and it's way better than stock and will NEVER get stripped again.
